Unfortunately from time to time, disputes arise with painting and decorating contracts and sometimes get to a stage where an impasse is reached. It seems there is no resolution to the situation other than engaging lawyers.
On instruction, I will survey the work and produce a totally unbiased report on my findings. The report may include photographs and analytical reports as necessary. The outcome of the report usually breaks the impasse and a satisfactory resolution to the situation is achieved.
The report is produced in the format as recommended by the Expert Witness Institute as acceptable to the Court and complies with Civil Procedure Rules, and can therefore be used by lawyers if required.
I am willing to accept instruction from anywhere in the UK.

Our lives are affected by colour much more than we realise. Colour can have a calming relaxing effect or a vibrant effect, it can create a sense of simplicity or affluence. The balance of colour is important especially when producing colour schemes for period interiors. The history of buildings and their decorations are of particular interest to me and I have received instructions to produce colour schemes for many listed buildings, both public and private.
Following an initial consultation meeting, I produce a colour visual for the client’s approval. Once the scheme is agreed I produce a colour schedule for the decorators. I am always available throughout the duration of the contract to assist in overcoming any problems which may arise.
It has been my experience, and indeed a National Survey has proved, that so much dissatisfaction with painting and decorating is in the poor quality of the work. In my investigations of disputes I am amazed at how many decorators did not actually work to a written specification or did not work correctly to the specification provided.
I can provide a survey and report of existing surface condition together with a specification for re-painting or re-decoration.
I can evaluate decorators’ sample boards of graining, marbling, broken colourwork, faux finishes, gilding etc. to determine quality.
I can undertake supervision of re-decorating contracts as required to ensure the work is carried out to the specification.
If you are the owner of an Historic Property, an Estate Manager, a Property Management Company, a Housing Association, a Residents’ Association, a Commercial Company: hotel, insurance, shop, office etc. and you are planning to have re-painting or re-decoration carried out, be sure the specification is written by an expert in decoration.
Please note: for owners of historic properties, I have access to the finest grainers, marblers, mural artists, gilders etc. in Europe.
There is nothing new about the painted finish on furniture and artefacts. We know that even the Pharaohs of Egypt engaged artisans to paint their furniture. So throughout time, articles have been transformed by the painted finish and it is as popular now as it ever was.
I am available for commissions to produce decorative effects on furniture and artefacts.
I am willing to accept instruction from anywhere in the UK.

Graining, Marbling, Faux Finishes, Broken Colourwork, Oil Gilding, Stencilling.
From time to time I am asked to provide short courses to update decorators’ skills, or indeed for the enthusiastic home decorator.
I can provide one or two day courses, usually at a weekend, as it is easier not to disrupt the working week for professional decorators. The course can be designed to suit your needs or I will provide a set programme. I am very flexible, but will recommend that a manageable number of effects are covered within the time limits. Remember, I will teach you the techniques, but it is up to you to go away and practice, to perfect those techniques.
I want you to go from the course confident that you can achieve an acceptable piece of work.
Accommodation can be arranged if required for the two-day course.
“You cannot beat a live performance”
How often we hear this expression when being entertained, and indeed, this is true with demonstrations of products and skills. I have given numerous demonstrations of decorating techniques: stencilling, graining, marbling etc. at Shows, Exhibitions, Shopping Malls, Builders’ Merchants and during the demonstration have been constantly barraged with questions about the products or the techniques. The public love a live performance.
I am available for Demonstrations, Product Launches, Photo Calls for magazines or other publications and I am willing to travel anywhere in the UK. Contact me so that we can discuss your idea.
